Hamburger Casserole

Here’s a classic, easy Hamburger Casserole — the kind of cozy, budget-friendly comfort food that’s perfect for feeding a family or enjoying as leftovers. Think hearty layers of ground beef, pasta, and a creamy, cheesy tomato sauce all baked until bubbly.


🍲 Classic Hamburger Casserole

🍽️ Serves: 6–8


🧂 Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 cups uncooked pasta (elbow macaroni or rotini work great)

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom or cream of tomato soup

  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • ½ cup sour cream (optional, for creamier texture)

  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning or paprika

  • Salt & pepper to taste

  • Optional: extra cheese for topping


👨‍🍳 Instructions

1. Cook the pasta

  • Boil pasta in salted water until al dente, then drain and set aside.

2. Cook the beef

  • In a large skillet, brown the ground beef with onion and garlic over medium heat until no longer pink. Drain excess fat.

3. Mix the casserole

  • To the beef, stir in:

    • Diced tomatoes

    • Cream soup

    • Sour cream (if using)

    • Seasonings

    • Cooked pasta

    • Half the shredded cheese

4. Assemble

  • Pour everything into a greased 9×13″ baking dish.

  • Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top.

5. Bake

  • Bake uncovered at 350°F (175°C) for 30–35 minutes, until bubbly and the cheese is melted and golden.


🧀 Optional Add-Ins

  • Frozen mixed veggies (peas, carrots, corn)

  • A pinch of red pepper flakes for spice

  • Swap cheddar for Monterey Jack, mozzarella, or a Mexican blend


🥡 Leftovers?

Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days in the fridge, or freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat in oven or microwave.
