air fryer tofu nuggets

Air fryer tofu nuggets are a crispy, high-protein snack or meal that’s easy to make and much healthier than deep-fried versions. Here’s a simple method:

Ingredients

  • 1 block extra-firm Tofu
  • 2 tbsp Soy sauce (or tamari)
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • 2–3 tbsp Cornstarch (for crispiness)
  • ½ tsp Garlic powder
  • ½ tsp Paprika
  • Optional: Black pepper, chili flakes, or Nutritional yeast

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu:
    Wrap the tofu in paper towels and press it for about 10–15 minutes to remove excess water.
  2. Cut into nuggets:
    Tear or cut the tofu into bite-sized chunks (tearing gives a rough surface that crisps better).
  3. Season:
    In a bowl, mix soy sauce, olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, and pepper. Toss tofu gently to coat.
  4. Add crisp coating:
    Sprinkle cornstarch over the tofu and toss again until lightly coated.
  5. Air fry:
    • Preheat air fryer to 190°C (375°F)
    • Cook for 12–15 minutes, shaking halfway through
    • Nuggets should be golden and crispy.

Optional dipping sauces

  • Sweet chili sauce 🌶️
  • Barbecue sauce
  • Sriracha mixed with Mayonnaise

Quick tips

  • Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket.
  • A light spray of oil makes them extra crispy.
  • You can add Panko breadcrumbs for a crunchier coating.
