Cheesy sausage puff pastry rolls

Posted on February 22, 2026 by Admin

Cheesy sausage puff pastry rolls are basically the ultimate savory comfort snack — crispy outside, juicy and cheesy inside. Here’s a simple, reliable recipe you can make at home.

🧀 Cheesy Sausage Puff Pastry Rolls

🛒 Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
  • 300–400 g sausage meat (or remove casings from sausages)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
  • 1 small onion, very finely chopped (optional)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Optional: chopped parsley, chili flakes, or Dijon mustard

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare filling
    In a bowl, mix:

    • Sausage meat
    • Shredded cheese
    • Onion (if using)
    • Garlic powder
    • Pepper
  3. Roll out pastry
Lightly flour surface and roll puff pastry into a rectangle.
Cut it lengthwise into 2 long strips.
  4. Add filling
Shape sausage mixture into logs and place along the center of each strip.
  5. Roll & seal
Fold pastry over filling and seal edge with a little water.
    Place seam-side down.
  6. Cut into pieces
Slice into bite-sized rolls (about 4–5 cm each).
  7. Egg wash
Beat egg and brush over tops.
Optional: sprinkle sesame seeds or extra cheese.
  8. Bake
18–25 minutes, until golden and puffed.

Cool slightly before serving.

🔥 Tips for Extra Flavor

  • Add a thin layer of mustard under the sausage
  • Mix in finely diced jalapeños
  • Use smoked sausage for deeper flavor
  • Sprinkle grated parmesan on top before baking

❄️ Make-Ahead Tip

You can:

  • Freeze unbaked rolls and bake from frozen (add 5–8 mins)
  • Store baked rolls in fridge up to 3 days
  • Reheat in oven for crispiness (avoid microwave if possible)

If you’d like, I can also give you:

  • A lighter / lower-carb version
  • A spicy version
