Cherry custard bake

Posted on January 21, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a Cherry Custard Bake that’s simple, old-fashioned, and comforting 🍒🥧—soft custard, juicy cherries, lightly golden top. Perfect for dessert or brunch.

🍒 Cherry Custard Bake

⏱ Time

  • Prep: 10–15 minutes
  • Bake: 40–45 minutes
  • Serves: 6–8

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cherries (fresh, frozen, or canned — pitted & drained)
  • 3 large eggs
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1½ cups milk (whole milk best)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • Optional: pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg

Instructions

1️⃣ Prep the Dish

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C)
  • Butter an 8×8-inch baking dish
  • Spread cherries evenly in the bottom

2️⃣ Make the Custard Batter

  1. Whisk eggs and sugar until pale
  2. Add milk, vanilla, melted butter
  3. Whisk in flour, salt, and spice (if using)
  4. Batter will be thin (that’s correct)

3️⃣ Assemble & Bake

  • Pour batter gently over cherries
  • Bake 40–45 minutes until set in the center and lightly golden
  • A knife inserted should come out mostly clean

4️⃣ Cool & Serve

  • Cool 15–20 minutes before serving
  • Dust with powdered sugar if desired

🍨 Serving Ideas

  • Warm with vanilla ice cream
  • Chilled with whipped cream
  • Breakfast-style with a dollop of yogurt

🌟 Variations

  • German-style: add lemon zest
  • French clafoutis: skip flour reduction and use whole cherries
  • Almond cherry: add ½ tsp almond extract
  • Extra rich: replace ½ cup milk with cream
