🍖 Chicken-Fried Steak
Chicken-fried steak is a classic comfort food featuring tender beef, breaded and fried like fried chicken, then topped with creamy gravy.
Ingredients
- 4 Beef cube steaks (about ½ inch thick)
- 1 cup All-purpose flour
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Black pepper
- ½ tsp Paprika (optional)
- 1 tsp Garlic powder
- 2 Eggs, beaten
- ¼ cup Milk
- ½ cup Vegetable oil or enough for frying
For the gravy:
- 2 tbsp Butter
- 2 tbsp Flour
- 1 ½ cups Milk
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
1️⃣ Prepare the Steak
- Mix flour, salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder in a shallow bowl.
- Beat eggs and milk in another bowl.
- Dredge each steak first in the flour mixture, then in the egg mixture, then again in flour. Press gently to coat.
2️⃣ Fry the Steak
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Fry steaks 3–4 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
- Transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
3️⃣ Make the Gravy
- Remove all but 2 tbsp of oil from the skillet.
- Add butter and melt over medium heat.
- Stir in flour and cook 1–2 minutes until lightly browned.
- Gradually whisk in milk, cooking until thickened.
- Season with salt and pepper.
4️⃣ Serve
- Pour gravy over steaks and serve with Mashed potatoes, Green beans, or Corn.
💡 Tip: For extra tender steak, lightly pound the cube steaks before breading.
If you want, I can also give a baked version of chicken-fried steak that’s lighter but just as crispy. Do you want that version?
