Chocolate Turtle Candy

Ah, Chocolate Turtle Candy 🐢🍫 — clusters of crunchy pecans, gooey caramel, and smooth chocolate. They’re called “turtles” because the pecans look like little legs sticking out from the chocolate shell.

Here’s a simple homemade version that tastes just like the classic candy-shop kind.


🐢 Chocolate Turtle Candy

🛒 Ingredients (Makes about 12–15 turtles)

  • 2 cups pecan halves
  • 20–24 soft caramel candies (or 1 cup thick caramel sauce)
  • 1 tbsp heavy cream (if melting caramels)
  • 1½ cups semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp coconut oil or butter (optional, for smooth melting)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Toast the Pecans (Optional but Recommended)

  • Spread pecans on a baking sheet.
  • Toast at 350°F (175°C) for 5–7 minutes until fragrant.
  • Let cool.

2️⃣ Form the “Turtle Base”

  • Arrange pecans in small clusters (about 3–4 pecan halves per cluster) on parchment paper.

3️⃣ Melt the Caramel

  • If using wrapped caramels:
    Melt with 1 tbsp heavy cream in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
  • Spoon about 1 tablespoon of caramel over each pecan cluster.

Let set for 10–15 minutes.

4️⃣ Melt the Chocolate

  • Melt chocolate chips (and coconut oil if using) in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.

5️⃣ Coat the Turtles

  • Spoon melted chocolate over each caramel cluster, covering completely.
  • Let set at room temperature or refrigerate 20–30 minutes until firm.

✨ Tips for Perfect Turtles

  • Sprinkle a tiny pinch of sea salt on top before chocolate sets for a gourmet touch.
  • Use dark chocolate for a richer flavor contrast.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
