🍰 Classic Crumb Cake Recipe

Ingredients

For the Cake:

  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (115 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups (190 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) milk

For the Crumb Topping:

  • 1/2 cup (100 g) brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup (60 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup (55 g) unsalted butter, cold
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven & Prepare Pan
    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C)
    • Grease and flour an 8×8-inch (20×20 cm) baking pan
  2. Make the Cake Batter
    • Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy
    • Beat in eggs and vanilla
    • Mix flour, baking powder, and salt
    • Add dry ingredients alternately with milk, mixing gently
  3. Prepare the Crumb Topping
    • Mix flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon
    • Cut in cold butter with a fork or pastry cutter until crumbly
  4. Assemble & Bake
    • Pour batter into the prepared pan
    • Sprinkle crumb topping evenly over the cake
    • Bake for 35–40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean
  5. Cool & Serve
    • Let cool for 10–15 minutes
    • Slice and enjoy with coffee or tea

💡 Tip: For extra flavor, add 1/2 cup chopped nuts or a few tablespoons of fruit preserves under the crumb topping.
