Ohhh this is one of those “why is this so good??” slow-cooker meals 😄
Simple ingredients, big comfort-food energy — and guests always ask for the recipe.

Dump-and-Go Slow Cooker Cabbage Dinner

Ingredients

  • 1 medium green cabbage, chopped into chunks
  • 1½–2 lb smoked sausage (kielbasa), sliced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes (with juice)
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp butter, cut into pieces
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt (go light — sausage is salty)
  • Optional: pinch of red pepper flakes or caraway seeds

How to make it

  1. Dump everything into the slow cooker (no order stress).
  2. Give it a gentle stir.
  3. Cover and cook:
    • LOW: 6–7 hours
    • HIGH: 3–4 hours
  4. Stir once halfway if you can (not required).

The cabbage turns tender and slightly sweet, the sausage flavors everything, and the broth becomes this ridiculously good sauce.

Why guests love it

  • Comforting but not heavy
  • Smells incredible while it cooks
  • Feels old-school and cozy
  • Works for casual dinners and potlucks

Easy upgrades (optional but 🔥)

  • Add baby potatoes or carrots for a full one-pot meal
  • Swap sausage for ham or bacon
  • Finish with a splash of apple cider vinegar for brightness
  • Serve with crusty bread or cornbread

If you want, I can give you:

  • A creamier version
  • A German-style cabbage twist
  • Or a low-cost version for feeding a crowd

Just say the word 🥬🍽️
