Green Chile Picadillo

Posted on February 13, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a flavorful, comforting Green Chile Picadillo — savory ground beef simmered with potatoes and roasted green chiles. It’s perfect for tacos, burritos, or just served with warm tortillas.

🌶️ Green Chile Picadillo

Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 medium potatoes, peeled and diced small
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1–1½ cups roasted green chiles, chopped (fresh or canned, drained)
  • 1 cup beef broth (or water)
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • Salt & black pepper to taste
  • 1–2 tbsp oil (if needed)

Optional:

  • 1 diced tomato
  • ½ tsp chili powder
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

🥘 Instructions

1️⃣ Brown the beef
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned. Drain excess grease if needed.

2️⃣ Add aromatics
Stir in onion and garlic. Cook 2–3 minutes until softened.

3️⃣ Add potatoes & seasoning
Mix in diced potatoes, cumin, oregano, salt, and pepper.

4️⃣ Add chiles & broth
Stir in green chiles and broth. Bring to a simmer.

5️⃣ Cover & cook
Reduce heat, cover, and cook 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until potatoes are tender and liquid has mostly reduced.

6️⃣ Adjust & serve
Taste and adjust seasoning. Garnish with cilantro if desired.

🌮 How to Serve

  • Spoon into warm flour or corn tortillas
  • Use as taco or burrito filling
  • Serve over rice
  • Top with shredded cheese or a fried egg

💡 Tips

  • For extra heat, add diced jalapeño or serrano.
  • For a saucier version, add a little more broth.
  • Leftovers are fantastic in breakfast burritos.

If you’d like, I can also give you a New Mexico–style version using Hatch green chiles or a Mexican-style picadillo with olives and raisins.
