Here’s a safe, effective homemade syrup you can make to relieve cough, phlegm, and cold/flu symptoms naturally. 🌿🍯

Homemade Honey & Ginger Syrup for Cough and Phlegm

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup raw honey (natural antibacterial properties)
  • 1 small fresh ginger root (1–2 inches), peeled and grated
  • 1 lemon (juice and zest)
  • Optional: 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon or a pinch of cayenne (helps clear congestion)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ginger
    • Peel and grate the ginger.
  2. Combine Ingredients
    • In a small saucepan, add honey and grated ginger.
    • Heat gently over low heat for 5–7 minutes—do not boil, to preserve honey’s properties.
  3. Add Lemon
    • Remove from heat.
    • Stir in lemon juice and zest.
    • Add cinnamon or cayenne if using.
  4. Cool & Store
    • Let the syrup cool slightly.
    • Strain into a clean jar to remove ginger pieces.
    • Store in the refrigerator for up to 2–3 weeks.

How to Use

  • Take 1–2 teaspoons as needed for cough or sore throat.
  • Can mix into warm water or tea for soothing effects.
  • Use 2–3 times daily during a cold or flu.

Why It Works

  • Honey: Soothes throat, fights bacteria, reduces coughing.
  • Ginger: Natural anti-inflammatory, helps loosen mucus.
  • Lemon: High in vitamin C, boosts immunity.
  • Optional spices: Cinnamon or cayenne improve circulation and help clear congestion.

⚠️ Note:

  • This is for mild coughs and colds.
  • If you have high fever, severe breathing issues, or symptoms lasting more than a week, see a doctor.
  • Do not give honey to children under 1 year.

If you want, I can make a supercharged 5-ingredient version that works even faster for clearing stubborn phlegm and congestion, using only kitchen staples.
