Salisbury Steak With Gravy

Here’s a rich, homemade Salisbury Steak with Gravy — tender beef patties simmered in savory onion-mushroom gravy. Classic comfort food 🍽️


🥩 Ingredients

For the Steaks

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • Salt & black pepper to taste

For the Gravy

  • 1 tbsp butter or oil
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1½ cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt & pepper to taste

🔥 Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the Patties

In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
Shape into 4 oval patties.

2️⃣ Brown the Patties

Heat a skillet over medium heat.
Cook patties 4–5 minutes per side until browned.
Remove and set aside.

3️⃣ Make the Gravy

In the same pan:

  • Add butter, onions, and mushrooms. Cook until soft.
  • Sprinkle in flour and stir for 1 minute.
  • Gradually whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Simmer until thickened (3–5 minutes).

4️⃣ Simmer Together

Return patties to the pan.
Cover and simmer 10–15 minutes until fully cooked and tender.


🍽️ Best Served With

  • Creamy mashed potatoes
  • Buttered noodles
  • Rice
  • Steamed green beans

💡 Extra Flavor Tips

  • Add a teaspoon of Dijon mustard to the gravy.
  • A splash of heavy cream makes the gravy richer.
  • For deeper flavor, use part beef broth + part French onion soup.
