Posted on April 28, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a classic Shepherd’s Pie recipe—comfort food with a savory meat base and creamy mashed potato topping.

(Traditionally made with lamb; if beef is used, it’s technically called Cottage Pie.)

🥧 Shepherd’s Pie (Easy Homemade Recipe)

🛒 Ingredients

Meat filling:

  • 500g minced lamb (or beef)
  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 carrots (diced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 cup peas (optional)
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup beef or chicken stock
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Salt & black pepper

Mashed potato topping:

  • 4–5 large potatoes (peeled & chopped)
  • 2–3 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup milk
  • Salt to taste

👨‍🍳 Instructions

1. Make mashed potatoes

  • Boil potatoes until soft (15–20 min)
  • Mash with butter, milk, and salt
  • Set aside (keep warm)

2. Cook meat filling

  • Heat oil in a pan
  • Sauté onion, carrots, garlic until soft
  • Add minced lamb and cook until browned
  • Stir in tomato paste + Worcestershire sauce
  • Add stock and simmer 10–15 minutes
  • Add peas, salt, pepper
  • Cook until thick (not watery)

3. Assemble

  • Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F)
  • Spread meat mixture in baking dish
  • Top with mashed potatoes
  • Smooth or fork the top for texture

4. Bake

  • Bake for 20–25 minutes
  • Optional: broil 2–3 minutes for golden crust
