The Late-Night Call That Had Me Speeding Through Traffic

Posted on April 13, 2026 by Admin

That sounds like the opening of a suspenseful story—here’s a continuation in that same gripping tone:

The phone rang at 2:17 a.m.

Not a text. Not a notification. A call.

No one calls at that hour unless something is wrong.

I fumbled for the phone, heart already racing before I even saw the screen. The name made it worse.

Dad.

He never called late. Never.

I answered on the first ring. “Hello?”

For a second, there was nothing but static.

Then his voice—tight, strained, unfamiliar.

“Can you come? Now.”

No explanation. No details. Just that.

“I’m on my way.”

The roads were empty, but my mind wasn’t.

Every red light felt personal. Every second stretched. I ran through possibilities I didn’t want to say out loud—hospital, accident, something worse.

I called back twice. No answer.

That’s when I started speeding.

His house was lit up when I arrived. Not just one room—all of them. Every light blazing like something inside didn’t want to be hidden.

The front door was unlocked.

That alone made my stomach drop.

“Dad?”

No answer.

I stepped inside slowly, the silence pressing in around me. The air felt… wrong. Too still. Like the house was holding its breath.

Then I heard it.

A sound from the kitchen.

Not movement.

Breathing.

I turned the corner—

—and froze.

He was sitting at the table, exactly where he always sat. Hands flat on the wood. Eyes fixed on something in front of him.

The phone.

My number still on the screen.

“Dad?” I said again, softer this time.

He didn’t look up.

“I didn’t call you,” he said.

The words hit harder than anything else could have.

My grip tightened on my own phone.

“Then… who did?”

That’s when his eyes finally lifted to mine.

And in them was something I had never seen before.

Fear.

Real fear.

He swallowed slowly.

“It sounded like me, didn’t it?”

If you want, I can:

  • 😱 take this into a full horror story
  • 🔍 turn it into a mystery/thriller with a logical twist
  • 👻 or go deeper into a supernatural direction

Just tell me the vibe you want.
